I've had balanitis before. I am circumcised, so it was sort of a strange thing to have gotten, but it was taken care of.

I've been sexually abstinent for well over six months, but I have red, blotchy patches on the head of my penis. Unlike the symptoms of HSV, they aren't puss-filled and there's no pain whatsoever, but this has been going on for a couple of months. Could this be HSV 2 or am I looking at a more mild form of balanitis?

Could be. Some times herpes isn't all blisters and goo. A lot of times it's just redness at first.
