My name is Rene and Im fifty years old and too old to be diagnosed with Herpes, but I was two days ago. I have not had any out breaks or any signs of the illness but that's what they say I have. Ok!!! I'm on this medication that makes me SICK!!! but I gotta do what I gotta right? I'm angry and confused and of course scare. I haven't even told anyone, because I'm so ashame and I just can't belive this...Only person I've told has been my boyfriend.

Now, I have been with my boyfriend for two years and I have never even looked at another man. Now I told him what the doctor said and he was in shock. He said he has not had any out breaks on his penis or his mouth. He keeps saying he thinks I've been misdiagnosed....I have to say I haven't seen anything like blisters on his penis or any thing like that on his body.
But back in November he had what appeared to have been an insect bite on his leg, the bite was painful and it was on there for a week or two, the bite bled and pus did come from it. He actually had two on him. He informed me a week ago he had another bite on his leg and it was doing the same thing. My question is can the outbreaks occur somewhere else besides the mouth and gentials? He hasn't gone to get tested yet and things are kind of crazy with us right now, but I need to know could those have been outbreaks?

One of my first questions is which strain of herpes is it. HSV-1 or HSV -2 ?

Hi Rene; I was just diagnosed two days ago, and have never, ever had a single outbreak or lesion; my doctor told me that some people remain asymptomatic for years, and may never get lesions....so they never know. He did not put me on the antivirals, stating that with no symptoms, he could not justify doing so. But you have my sympathy; I too have only told the guy I was with-I too am afraid of how people will respond. It's crappy news to hear, but at least it is not fatal, and we are still the same women we were before we found out. Take care!
